The Golf Course Allotments Committee

Who are they?

What are they for?

And why do they keep telling us what to do?

Firstly, we aren't 'Big Brother', and we don't work for Haringey Council.

We are all plot holders like you, who have stepped up to help with some of the things that need organising and doing on our huge and wonderful site. Sometimes it's like trying to herd cats, but it's rarely dull.

The Committee has up to 12 members. As of the Annual General Meeting 2024, these are:

Chair - Tricia Kelly

Tricia chairs all Committee meetings and the AGM, carries out the Committee's decisions, liaises with plot holders and outside organisations such as the Metropolitan Police, the Haringey Allotment Forum, the National Garden Scheme, the local community, Custom Cutters - indeed anyone with whom anything needs to be organised to keep the site maintained and running as smoothly as possible. Tricia also helps to resolve disputes, problems on site and breaches of tenancy agreements.

You can contact Tricia directly at tricia3ts@icloud.com

Site Secretary - Tullio Moglia

Tullio liaises with Haringey Council and Vicky Stones, the Allotment Officer. He is responsible for the waiting list, allocating plots and site keys to new tenants, carrying out plot inspections, and dealing with breaches of both the Site rules and of Haringey Council's tenancy agreement.

You can contact Tullio via news@golfcourseallotments.co.uk

Treasurer: Jim Clark

Jim records all transactions and maintains the GCAA's accounts, and basically keeps the Site afloat, financially. He applies for and keeps track of the maintenance grant from Haringey Council, as well as the funds raised through our Cafés, our Shop, Calendar sales, the Annual Show, and GCAA Subscriptions. He also presents accounts annually for external auditing and approval.

Minutes Secretary/Communications/Website/Allotment Shop:

Veronica (Vee) Nolan

Vee minutes all meetings, sends out emails, is currently updating this website and manages the Allotment Shop.

You can contact Vee directly at news@golfcourseallotments.co.uk

Head of Maintenance: Mick Gerrie

Among other things, Mick keeps our water supply going by attending to all the water tanks, taps, ballcocks and pipes (above and below ground), organises and carries out repairs, switches the water off in Winter and on again in the Spring. He also helps maintain and repair our community building. You can leave a message for Mick regarding Site repairs at the Allotment Shop, or via news@golfcourseallotments.co.uk

Probationers' Mentor: Imelda O'Brien

Advises and supports all new plot holders with their plots in order to help them pass their probation period. Does not wear a uniform.

Other Committee members: Lindsey Dearden, Alison Joseph, Andrew Lewis, Bruce Murphy, John Newman, and Laura Proffitt.

These members attend meetings, offer opinions and advice, and help with tasks as needed.

So - what else does the Committee help do?

Boundary maintenance: ensuring trees and hedges are in good order and cut back as necessary

Site Security: repairs to gates and fences

Community Relations (also a lot of mending at times)

Having free wood chip available for as many plot holders as possible

The Composting Toilet

The Monthly Cafés

Organising Working Parties

Organising the Annual General Meeting and endeavouring to carry out our members' wishesas expressed there, wherever possible

The Annual Show in September

Liaising with the National Gardens Scheme

We could go on...

No-one on the Committee does what they do for power or glory. There isn't any. We are all volunteers and we do not get paid for our time, our effort and our energy. But like you, we care about the Site and we want it to be well run, properly maintained, safe and secure, and a great place for everyone to spend their precious free time.
